This is my story:
Hi! I’m Jordan and I’m an I.T. Technician from Alberta, Canada.
I was 21 years old when my world quite literally changed overnight. Up until that point I had been completely healthy, and had never experienced anything other than a common cold. I distinctly remember waking up one day in 2011 and immediately knowing that something was wrong; I had severe abdominal pain, sores in my mouth, and I felt incredibly weak to the point where something as simple as standing up was difficult.
These symptoms continued for weeks as I stubbornly told myself that it was just the flu and that it’d pass on its own. This wasn’t the case, and I continued a downward spiral to the point where I was sleeping 18 hours a day, using the washroom over 20 times a day, and barely managing to eat.
After countless visits to doctors, E.R. trips, and a 6 month wait for a colonoscopy, I was given the diagnosis of Crohn’s disease. As strange as it may sound, I was happy to hear the news because I finally had the answer as to why I’d been so unwell.
Despite the challenges that the last 9 years have brought, I consider myself incredibly blessed for all the amazing people that I’ve been able to have in my life because of this journey.
No matter what your chronic illness may be, there are so many others out there going through the same thing. Don’t ever hesitate to reach out for support!
