When living with a chronic illness, exercise can sometimes feel intimidating. There may be days when your energy is low, your symptoms flare, or your body simply needs extra rest. During those moments, it is important to remember that movement over perfection is often the key to building a sustainable relationship with exercise.

Many people think exercise has to look a certain way to be effective. However, movement over perfection: finding exercise that works for you means focusing on what your body is capable of rather than comparing yourself to others. Some days that may be a walk around the block, gentle stretching, yoga, or a few minutes of movement at home. Every bit of movement counts.

Exercise can offer many benefits for individuals living with chronic illness, including improved mood, increased strength, better sleep, and reduced stress. The goal is not to push through pain or ignore your body's signals. The goal is to find activities that support your health while honoring your limitations.

Remember that progress is not measured by how intense your workout is. Progress is showing up for yourself, listening to your body, and making choices that support your well-being. By embracing movement over perfection, you can create a routine that feels achievable, enjoyable, and sustainable for the long term.

Give yourself credit for every step, stretch, and effort. Small actions can lead to meaningful change over time

What is your favorite way to move your body on days when your energy is limited?
