At Chronic Warrior Coaching, we believe that every chronic warrior has a story worth sharing. Meet Aubyn: A Story of Strength, Honesty, and Living with Chronic Illness reminds us that resilience is often built through life's greatest challenges and that connecting with others can make the journey feel a little less lonely.

Interview with a Warrior:

Where are you from?

 I am from Ontario, Canada.

What diagnosis or diagnoses do you live with?

I was born with a congenital heart defect and had my first heart surgery when I was just seven years old. I also live with depression and anxiety related to a car accident that caused mobility issues, including a fused ankle. For example, I can climb up a ladder, but I am not able to come back down safely. At this point, I do not use a cane or walker.

What is one thing you wish people understood about your condition?

With my heart condition, it is lifelong. After I have surgery, people often assume that I am "fixed," but that is not the case. It is something I will continue to manage throughout my life.

What has your illness taught you about yourself?

I am tougher than I think.

What advice would you give someone who is newly diagnosed?

Find other people who have a similar diagnosis. There is so much value in connecting with people who understand what you are going through.

What brings you joy outside of your health journey?

My two Corgis bring me so much joy. Their names are Cinnamon, who is three and a half years old, and Bandit, who is six years old. They are half siblings and keep life fun.

What is a fun fact about yourself?

I have traveled to New Zealand.

 One word to describe yourself?

 Honest.

What are some of your hobbies?

I enjoy being a pen pal and writing old-fashioned letters. I also love reading and have recently started riding e-bikes.

Thank you, Aubyn, for sharing your story with the Chronic Warrior Coaching community. đź’śđź’ś
